NOSE
Mulled cider, cardamom, candied ginger and a touch of piper tobacco. Caramel, vanilla and gentle Rye spice develops with time in the glass.
PALATE
Maple syrup and pears are balanced by dark chocolate and French oak spice. With water, the spice moves front and center and a vibrant, fruit-forward character develops.
FINISH

Lasting spice and a touch of charred oak and caramel, maple syrup lingers as the finish fades.

Whistle Pig Description

Whistle Pig Boss Hog 5 Fifth Edition is located on one of the oldest farms in Vermont. Cultivation began here in the early 19th century in what was then known as the hamlet Shaksboro. Steam engines replaced the lifeblood of the town – a grist and lumber mill powered by the Lemon Fair River – which still meanders through farm – and the town slowly dissipated until vanishing entirely in the 1930’s. The farm remained in operation until 2006 when it was purchased and renamed by Whistle Pig’s founder Raj Peter Bhakta.

After a few years of deep consideration and personal reflection we committed ourselves to crafting the world’s finest and most interesting Rye Whiskeys. With help from world-renowned Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, we discovered and purchased an incredible stock of 10 year old blending Whiskey in Canada that was being profoundly misused. That initial stock, for which we are forever grateful, is what kicked off our grand adventure.

Dave Pickerell was a luminary in the world of whiskey, one of the nation’s preeminent master distillers. Before joining Whistle Pig, Dave spent 14 years as Master Distiller at Maker’s Mark in Loretto, Kentucky. He joined the Whistle Pig team in order to create what he regarded as his magnum opus: Whistle Pig 100% Straight Rye Whiskey.

Whistle Pig’s distillery is the culmination of five diligent years of planning. Opened in 2015, we distill 7 days a week in our unique copper pot still designed by Dave Pickerell himself.
